Edge AI
Artificial intelligence processing that runs directly on local hardware (e.g. an appliance in-store) rather than sending data to a remote cloud server. Enables real-time decisions with full data privacy.
Pose Estimation
A computer vision technique that identifies the position and orientation of a person's body joints in a video frame. Used to detect concealment gestures like slipping items into bags or pockets.
Dwell Time
The duration a person spends in a specific area of the store. Abnormally high dwell time in high-shrink zones can indicate theft preparation or suspicious behaviour.
Shrinkage
The loss of retail inventory due to theft, fraud, damage, or administrative error. Australian pharmacies lose an average of $52,000 per year to shrinkage (NRA 2022).
Concealment Detection
AI-powered identification of the physical act of hiding merchandise — placing items into bags, jackets, prams, or other containers. IntelliGuard detects concealment in real time with 90%+ accuracy.
False Positive

Open Network Video Interface Forum — an industry standard that ensures interoperability between IP cameras and recording systems from different manufacturers.
Face Embedding
A mathematical representation (vector) of facial features used for matching repeat offenders. IntelliGuard stores only embeddings — never photos — ensuring privacy compliance.
Inference
The process of running a trained AI model on new data to make predictions. IntelliGuard performs inference locally on the edge appliance at up to 30 frames per second.
